About name resolution

Question

Let me confirm the name resolution in the AWS environment. If you have Route53 or AD as the name resolution method, is there a way to specify which one to refer to for name resolution? Also, I would like you to teach me how to transfer zones from AD to Route53.

Answer from AWS:

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to AWS Premium Support. My name is Yogesh and I am glad to assist with your case today.

I understand that you want to know if we can choose between AD and Route 53 for name resolution. Also you would like to know if there is a way to perform a zone transfer from AD to Route 53. Please do correct me if I have misunderstood anything.

I would like to inform you that the AWS services/ environment only use Route 53 for the name resolution.
Though, you can integrate your AD services with Route 53 resolvers, for more information please refer [1].

To your next query, AWS currently does not support secondary DNS services and zone transfers. There is already a request for Route 53 to support zone transfer. There is no ETA as AWS does not publicize the roadmap items; however, as soon as it gets released, it should be publicly announced in either one of the following links:

AWS News Blog: https://aws.amazon.com/blogs/aws/

You can import the Zone Files manually in Route 53, please refer the link [2] for more information.
